Overview
The news earlier this month that the largest HTTPS distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack on record was intercepted and mitigated should get the attention of financial institutions. The sheer size and power of the attack, waged by a tiny botnet that involved just more than 5,000 devices and peaked at 26 million requests per second, is troubling. Though relatively few devices were involved, each device generated more than 5,200 requests per second at the peak of the attack.
