Overview
Javelin Strategy & Research evaluated 14 identity protection services (IDPS) providers across five weighted categories: Detection & Monitoring (40%), User Experience (35%), Prevention (15%), Resolution (7%), and Onboarding & Authentication (3%). Gen Digital, provider of Norton 360 with LifeLock Ultimate Plus, ranked No. 1 in four of the five categories.
Key findings from the research reveal that the market is evolving beyond traditional identity theft protection toward scam prevention, cybersecurity integration, and family-focused protections. However, major gaps remain. No providers offer advanced scam predictive modeling, and just 21% offer monitoring options for children's online gaming risks. What's more, very few vendors provide meaningful social media and dark web cleanup services. Features such as social media monitoring, mobile anti-malware, security freezes, digital passkeys, and scam-loss reimbursement are increasingly shaping competitive advantage in the direct-to-consumer (D2C) IDPS market.
Javelin’s 2026 Identity Theft Protection Services Market Report highlights the current share and value of the U.S. IDPS market and serves as a primer to Javelin’s two benchmarking scorecards that analyze the features and provisions offered by leading IDPS providers in the U.S. through D2C and business-to-business (B2B), B2B2C sales. Javelin's 2026 Direct-to-Consumer Identity Protection Services Overview: Gains, Gaps, and Opportunities for Industry Growth will be followed by Javelin's biennial Identity Protection Services Vendor Scorecard, which will publish on June 2, 2026, and Javelin's Business-to-Business Identity Theft Protection Services Vendor Scorecard, which will publish in late July.
Key questions discussed in this report:
- What scam protections will drive future IDPS investment?
- Why does personalized identity theft resolution support matter more than ever?
- Why does Javelin see child cybersecurity protections driving B2B IDPS growth?
