Overview
Fraud and scam activity against consumers continues to grow in both volume and sophistication, impacting financial institutions. Fraud teams now operate in environments rife with AI-enabled risks, including social engineering, account takeover, and synthetic identities, to name just a few. Many fraud operations teams within financial institutions are being tasked with mitigating growing fraud threats without additional resources (or worse yet, fewer), making things particularly challenging as fraudsters use AI to perpetrate more complex schemes. Meanwhile, consumers are left wondering which interactions, communications, and purchases are genuine and which may be fraudulent.
For financial institutions, the challenge lies in a few key areas: principally in accurately capturing, accessing, and analyzing critical data points that aid in determining the presence of fraud and in keeping up with transaction speed and volume. To proactively detect and manage fraud and scam threats, financial institutions must coordinate all aspects of the account lifecycle. Onboarding, authentication, transaction monitoring, account maintenance, and communication management each pose their own fraud risks to consumers, and they must work together to prioritize risks and improve workflow and day-to-day fraud operations.
