As more financial institutions and P2P providers expand their services to include remote deposit capture, the risk of double presentment of checks continues to grow. The constant presence of criminals who manipulate consumers to unwittingly carry out mobile deposit scams require more attention to the technology that is in place today to help thwart these attacks.
In Javelin's 2021 Identity Fraud Study, 16% of fraud victims reported being manipulated by criminals into cashing a counterfeit check. The amenity of having a remote deposit capture is a great convenience. However, criminals also love to utilize it as a part of their various schemes and unfortunately they leverage the technology and adapt to these technologies even faster than consumers do.
Join John Buzzard, Lead Analyst of Fraud & Security, and Suzanne Sando, Sr. Analyst of Fraud & Security, of Javelin Strategy & Research as they discuss:
- How criminals are exploiting remove deposit capture technology
- The impact of remote deposit capture on consumers and how they are being manipulated through remote deposit by criminals
- How financial institutions can reduce remote deposit fraud
