Overview
Javelin’s ninth annual Credit Card Issuers’ Identity Safety Scorecard analyzes the customer‐facing security features and scores of 24 of the nation’s top credit card issuers using Javelin’s Prevention, Detection, and Resolution™ Model. The Scorecard offers timely and actionable benchmarking rankings at a point when card fraud committed with compromised card data has more than tripled between 2010 and 2012 and skimming, malware, and data breaches continue to threaten the security of consumer payment card data. Scorecard performance shows uneven attention from issuers to each of the critical areas of identity safety, with issuers’ support most lacking in sophisticated Prevention measures. This report provides credit card issuers insight into how the industry’s customer‐facing security measures are affecting recent fraud trends and how issuers can improve their security infrastructure.
Primary Questions:
- What customer‐facing security measures do major credit card issuers offer?
- How common are the capabilities among credit card issuers?
- What key fraud trends are affecting card security, and what is the connection between data breaches and fraud?
- What environmental factors are influencing the adoption of credit card safety features by issuers?
- In what security options should issuers invest to generate the most substantive fraud‐reduction benefits?
