Identity Protection Direct-to-Consumer Services Reach $1.4B in a Year Ridden with Data Breaches
Today, Javelin Strategy Research releases 2015 Identity Protection Services Scorecard - Direct-to-Consumer Market, which examines the issues affecting consumer adoption of identity protection services and the means by which the leading 16 service providers can maximize their share of an increasingly consolidated market. The dynamic nature of fraud trends requires Javelin to continue enhancing and refining three critical categories: prevention, detection, and resolution. Market sizing and analysis of consumer behaviors and attitudes is included to provide a complete picture of the fraud battlefield.
The results of Javelin Strategy & Research's eighth annual Identity Protection Services study show that consumer adoption of ID protection services is growing but still experiencing high churn rate. Javelin benchmarked 16 providers of direct-to-consumer identity protection services and found EZShield, LifeLock, LegalShield and several others outshined the rest of the market.
"Subscribers are well educated, wealthy individuals that are comfortable with new technology," said Al Pascual, Director of Fraud & Security at Javelin Strategy & Research. "Mobile functionality can strengthen the customer relationship, as well as differentiate the service."
Unfortunately, nearly a third of all subscribers withdrew from the direct-to-consumer market in 2014 for a number of reasons. Yet there were several ID protection service vendors that Javelin benchmarked top 16 vendors offering identity protection services directly to consumers to identify those with a quality set of features to prevent, detect and resolve fraud. Javelin examines changing fraud landscape and ranks vendors in three critical categories: prevention, detection, and resolution.
- EZShield maintained its title of Best Overall Identity Protection Services Leader for the second year in a row. EZShield took top honors in both the prevention and resolution categories.
2015 Identity Protection Services Leader award was earned in 3 categories (alphabetically):
- Prevention: Affinion Group, EZShield, IdentityForce, LegalShield, and LifeLock
- Detection: Equifax, EZShield, Intersections, IDWatchdog and LifeLock
- Resolution: EZShield, IdentityForce, keepmyID, LifeLock, LegalShield, and myFICO
