Identity Fraud: The Butterfly Effect

  • Presented by :
  • John Buzzard
  • Research Topic(s):
  • Fraud & Security
  • Fraud Management
  • Play Recording

Identity fraud is a growing concern for businesses today, and the current landscape is marked by a series of events that create a chain reaction, influencing multiple outcomes. Javelin, with its two-decade-old identity fraud analysis, continues to evolve its examination of financial losses, criminal motives, and the long-term effects of identity fraud victimization.

We invite you to join us for an interactive panel moderated by John Buzzard, Javelin’s Lead Analyst of Fraud & Security, and the author of Identity Fraud Study: The Butterfly Effect, the 20th-anniversary edition of Javelin’s annual identity fraud study. We will discuss the trends in traditional identity fraud, identity fraud scams, and the toll these losses exert on consumers. We will also delve into why non-white households are disproportionately impacted because of identity fraud.

Join us as we explore:

  • How fraud and criminal tactics have shifted through two decades of technology, economic, and societal changes
  • Impact of identity fraud - putting a human face to crimes that often shatter confidence, shred credit, and harm long-term financial well-being
  • How Javelin-tracked fraud categories are changing in surprising ways

Speakers:

John Buzzard – Moderator

Kathy Stokes, Director of Fraud Prevention Programs at AARP

Ben Erdel, General Manager Identity Theft Protection—Employer Services at Equifax

Jeff Robbins, Director of Enterprise Fraud Controls at FIS
